Safe By My Side follows two orphaned brothers, Sergio and Micos, who live in the once pristine Amazon rainforests of Ecuador. Sergio loyally protects his younger deaf brother, Micos, as they escape their abusive uncle and begin a hazardous trek across the Andean mountains to the capital city of Quito. A mission worker there discovers the brothers still surviving on the streets and tries to find them a stable home through an adoption agency. A couple from the states fall in love with Sergio and arrive in Quito to meet him. When Sergio finds out that his younger brother might not be a part of the arrangement, he and Micos steal away to the coast. As the mission worker and the adoptive couple search for the boys, Sergio and Micos realize that they may not be able to completely take care of each other as they had always hoped.
